It’s no secret that I love reality TV competitions. That’s why I’ve been excited to watch the current season of Bravo’s Top Chef Masters. The competition is down to the final four chefs. Incredibly, none of them will walk away with money in their pocket from this competition. All of their winnings go to their charities. But that doesn’t stop them from giving it their all.
These superstar chefs all have huge talent and enormous egos. So they pull out all the stops in the competition. Some of them have served as guest judges on the original Top Chef series, but they are given a true wake-up call when they are the ones competing in those impossible challenges. It’s a lot of fun to watch.
So it’s great news for Top Chef Masters fans that the first season of the series will be released on DVD tomorrow. You’ll want be sure to get to your retailer tomorrow so you can get your copy.
As a side note, Top Chef lso has a cookbook out that you may want. The book is entitled How You Can Cook Like a Top Chef. This is how the book is described:
“Covering everything from knife skills to sauces and sous-vide, How to Cook Like a Top Chef teaches aspiring chefs what it takes to be a star in the kitchen. Packed with exclusive content including a foreword by Top Chef: Masters winner Rick Bayless, original recipes from contestants, behind-the-scenes interviews, juicy trivia, and tons of tips and tricks this volume is as indispensable on the cook’s countertop as it is essential reading for Top Chef fans.”
I know I really need this guide!

The lovely host of So You Think You Can Dance, Cat Deeley was snapped by the paparazzi recently when she attended The Lancome and Harper’s Bazaar Pre-BAFTA Party in London on February 19. I love the tiny pearls sewn onto her dress and think she looks great, as always. But for some reason, when the photos were taken, she looks like she was unhappy or bored.

This morning, Bethenny Frankel, one of Bravo’s Real Housewives, was a guest on the CBS Early Show.
She showed how to make a three course meal spending less than $40. The recipes looked amazing and she assures us that the chocolate cake is healthy, in spite of the fact that it’s yummy and moist!
I think I’m going to go get her latest book, Skinnygirl Dish!
There’s horrible news for Dancing With the Stars finalist Marie Osmond. Her 18-year-old son has committed suicide. This is of course also a tragedy for last season’s DWTS winner, Donny Osmond because the young man was his nephew.
Marie Osmond’s teenaged son, Michael Blosil, has killed himself by leaping to his death around 9 p.m. Friday in Los Angeles, reports Entertainment Tonight, which quotes Marie’s brother, Donny Osmond, as saying, “Please pray for my sister and her family.” Through her rep, Marie Osmond release a statement Saturday. It says, “My family and I are devastated and in deep shock by the tragic loss of our dear Michael and ask that everyone respect our privacy during this difficult time.” According to ET, Michael left a note explaining he intended to end his life after a lengthy battle with severe depression that left him, he said, feeling as if he had no friends and could never fit in. What a tragic loss! My thoughts and prayers go out to Marie and her entire family.
As promised, here’s another review of the best one-episode competition reality series. This time, I’m reviewing Chopped on the Food Network.
Former Queer Eye member, Ted Allen, hosts the show and each episode/competition has three very well known chefs to judge the finished dishes. Sounds pretty simplistic, right?
That would be wrong!
We get a chance at the beginning of the episode to find out a bit about each of the competing chefs, then they are tossed to the sharks, so to speak.
In each of three rounds, they will be given a basket of crazy ingredients that absolutely do not go together and they will have an insanely short amount of time (like 20 minutes) to prepare a delicious dish. The first round is an appetizer, second round is a main entrée, and third round is predictably the toughest, dessert.
After frantically cooking as fast as they can, when the time is up, they must present a finished dish to each of the judges. Each dish must include all of the mystery items in some way, but with such a short time frame, often one will be left out or not cooked properly. That sets the chef up to be “Chopped.” After each round one of the competitors is cut from the competition, i.e. Chopped.
When all three rounds are over and the one chef is left standing, he or she wins a $10,000 prize. Not bad for a day’s work!
I haven’t seen many dishes that I would actually want to make or even eat, but to watch these talented people pushed so hard is fascinating. Some buckle under the pressure, some stay calm and collected. And we’ve seen more than our share of blood from them trying to cut things too quickly. And don’t get me started about the people who “double dip” while they cook. The judges can scold them, and they continue to do it! I hope I never eat in their restaurants!!
I do enjoy this series. And surprisingly, I almost always have a favorite chef that I hope will win each episode. I recommend that you watch and see if it’s a show you’ll enjoy too.
